Amanda Austin

Amanda Austin cultivated her love and originality for creating beautiful images, while discovering the world around her with a trusty old film camera.
Her passion and love of life, culture, fashion, cinema, people, and the world in general, can be seen translated through her beautiful and often intimate and romantic imagery.
Upon arrival back to Australia, Amanda's talent was quickly recognised and she was awarded a one year scholarship to Melbourne's, Photographic Imaging College, based on her folio of personal images.
Amanda has emerged as a truly original force in Australian photography. Her work has been published in many Australian and International Magazines.  She has been a senior photographer at Frankie Magazine and resident photographer for fashion label Sass and Bide for over 5 years.  In 2010 Amanda published and sold a limited edition book of personal portraits exclusively to Standard Bookstore in Osaka, Japan.
Amanda currently works from her studio in Sydney, Australia.

This Was Then was a raw portrait study of the people that were a part of my life in one particular era. It was meant to be a basic study of the people that where physically in my life in some way and that helped me define the world around me at that moment, as others had in the past defined a different era of my life. It was also a simple celebration of the amazing characters they all were, shown purely as themselves in a vulnerable moment where they could be nothing else but themselves. Stripped of the confidence that comes with adornment and clothing, i created a bare space and a moment when they reveal themselves for one moment as they truly are.. This Was Then was a personal project, the published book was sold exclusively to Standard Bookstore in Osaka, Japan
