Derek Henderson, born in New Zealand in 1963 has worked in London for I-D magazine, Arena Homme Plus, The Observer Magazine and Exit Magazine. He returned to Sydney in 1998 to work on personal projects.
Derek's work is of a general sociological nature, with an interest in the way displacement and isolation has affected human behaviour in New Zealand, and how food production has damaged the natural environment.

Here's another image from my new project I'm currently working on:
All images are taken at Church College of New Zealand which opened in 1958, west of Hamilton in New Zealand. It is part of the Latter Day Saints complex which includes a temple and training facilities for Missionaries.
The College is in its last year as the Mormon Church that fund the school wish to spend their money elsewhere. It is the only Mormon school in New Zealand. Once the school closes in December this year it will be demolished and returned to farm land.
When I visit the school it feels like a ghost of what it must have been in its heyday with over 900 students, today there are a mere 200 year 11 and 12 students. There is a melancholy about the empty classrooms and corridors that once must have been filled with the laugher of both students and teachers.

Introduction
Internationally renown Australian based photographer, Derek Henderson recently visited the home of the late Harry Seidler, the man responsible for much of Sydney’s iconic architecture. Harry’s widow, Penelope, who has lived in the residence since 1967, was at home and agreed to be Derek’s model in the story.
