Having spent her childhood exploring the rural surround of her Suffolk home, jewelry designer Lucy Hutchings developed a natural fascination with raw materials and manipulating them into something beautiful.
This passion instinctively drew her to take a course in wood, metal, ceramics and plastics at the University of Brighton. After gaining a first class Bachelor of Arts degree, her definitive designs soon attracted widespread attention.
It wasn't long before commissions from cutting edge boutique Start London flew in thick and fast. Pieces of her jewelry were featured on WGSN, and she even exhibited in the window of Mathew Williamson's Bruton Street store.
Such early success led to an opening for Lucy to join Erickson Beamon's prestigious London studios, and from there she went on to work at developing 3D design techniques for a number of commercial brands.
Combining her diverse experience and wide range of skills, Lucy presents her independent self-titled range of jewelry that's uniquely bold and elegant.
Drawing inspiration from a vast array of sources, including the intrinsic beauty of natural materials to the derelict architecture of East London's urban landscape, Lucy's jewelry is all about challenging boundaries and celebrating the subtleties of beauty and contrast.
Nature and science seem to be both at war- and peace-in her jewelry. Her iconic use of semi -precious stones and real peacock feathers juxtaposes the rigid geometry of the gold cages that enclose them, but her skill conflates hard and soft into a perfect harmony.
With her increasing global presence, her jewelry has been featured in publications worldwide including Vogue, Elle, and Harpers Bazaar.
