Maddison Graphic is a design studio formed by brothers Edward and Alfie Maddison in late 2006. They are based in the small Cathedral City of Ely, deep in the flat Cambridgeshire fens.
Edward graduated from Norwich School of Art and Design and worked as a freelance designer, Alfie held a position in marketing and business development at an architects practice in London. It occurred to them that they had developed the complimentary skills necessary to form a small design studio. In 2006 Maddison Graphic was born.
A portion of their work has been in the Heritage sector, including a signage scheme for Christ Church Oxford, the design of the 'Red Wheel' plaque for the Transport Trust (a national programme for recognising sites of historical interest) and the decorative vinyl for a large glazed screen in St Luke's Church Cambridge. However they have also produced a number of identity projects, including a set of stationery for the journalist Zoe Williams and the rebranding of local firm Mole Architects.
Beside Client lead projects, they enjoy self initiated, and collaborative work with other artists and designers, They have recently produced two art prints ('Boats' and 'Forest') that are available through their website and other sites and shops around the country. A set of prints available through Mark Blamire's print-process.com. And are currently working with sculptor Jack Wheeler.
They aim to produce work that is suited to its environment but at the same time avoids pastiche, whether the project is a wayfinding scheme for Ely Cathedral or the rebranding of a record company, the work should contribute in a way that informs and compliments. There is an attempt at an avoidance of preconception or style, though this is easier said than done.
