Rachel Barrett

Brooklyn based photographer Rachel Barrett (b. 1981) was raised in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Her deeply personal work is rooted in nostalgia, memory and identity and the act of making photographs fulfills her desire to collect the present and preserve the past. She received her BFA in Photography & Imaging from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts in 2003 and her MFA in Photography, Video & Related Media from The School of Visual Arts in 2008. Barrett, a 2010 Tierney Fellow, has received numerous awards and honors for her work, including being named one of Photo District News Top 30 Emerging Photographers to watch in 2011. She has exhibited her photographs nationally in both solo and group shows and been widely published including in The New York Times, Photo District News, Russian Esquire and Orion Magazine. A CUNY adjunct professor of photography, Barrett is represented by the Jennifer Schwartz Gallery.
