Sarah Larnach

Sarah Larnach

Sarah Larnach; painter, collaborator and illustrator, calls herself a New Zealand artist, but has reluctantly spent less than a year of her career here in New Zealand.

Work and study saw her based in Australia for the better part of 13 years and it was there that she met her most well known collaborator; fellow kiwi, musician Pip Brown aka Ladyhawke. Larnach credits Brown with steering her onto the right path with her art. That 'right' move to the cheeky watercolour portraits she's known for was cemented when a digital copy of her first attempt found its way to an occasional curator of the Whitney Museum, who contacted the painter to register his interest and encouragement. Two years on, the exposure of an album cover and music videos (Ladyhawke) garnered much more interest in Larnach's work and exposed her to her international client base.

Sarah Larnach has exhibited extensively in Australia, as well in New Zealand, The U.S.A. and U.K., and while she has been reluctant to lock down a debut solo show prematurely, the artist says she sells her work to a loyal client base "faster than I can paint it". Outside of painting for exhibition, album cover artwork is her passion an has seen her nominated for an ARIA for her work with Ladyhawke, as well as working with bands like Passenger (U.K.), The Sami Sisters  and Liam Finn- her artwork for his album FOMO has just been nominated for Best Art On Vinyl award, an international competition based out of London. The 'My Delirium' music video she illustrated for Ladyhawke was nominated for a D&AD award in 2009, and also in 2009 their art & music collaboration saw them chosen as one of two featured artists for the Becks Bier Anuual Artist series which sees eighteen million bottles of becks labelled with their artwork over the European summer- previous holders of this honor have included Damien Hirst and Tracy Emin.

Sarah is patronized by the Element Advocates Programme internationally. She's represented by Gallery A.S. in Sydney.  For illustration she is represented by International Rescue.
