In the midst of what has been feeling like endless work, I took a week in December to take a road trip through Texas with Pamela Love. I started in San Antonio with my cousin Mike, who took me out to barbeque and taught me how to ride his Harley in a parking lot. I was scared but once I started I didn't want to stop. Next I drove to Houston to get Pam, where I spent a morning with Rick Lowe of Project Row Houses, a community building arts project that he's been working on for the past fifteen years. We'll be profiling him in the next issue of Dossier. From there we headed towards Marfa, stopping on the way at the Yo Ranch in Kerrville - best hotel name ever - and also when the Texas Highway Patrol pulled us over. I drive fast, and that was, somewhat miraculously, the first speeding ticket I've ever gotten. Marfa was a really cool little town, but I think we were mostly excited to eat real food after a few days of what most of America eats. On our way back, we stopped at the Caverns of Sonora. My mom took us to see lots of caverns when I was a kid, but I've never seen any as pretty as these. I felt like I was in Narnia. We flew out of San Antonio and I headed straight to work in LA the next day.
