Hates Escalators, Loves Stairs: This title comes from a friend of ours who studied architecture at the Bartlett in London. We phoned him up and asked him if he could give us any insider hints into the mind and work of Peter Cook. He said he "hates escalators but loves stairs". We wanted to pay homage to Peter, referencing the imagery and colours used in his work with Archigram. The Archigram collective was noted for being an amalgamation of pop and architecture and we wanted to portray this fusion in the drawing. We gave Peter his own modular style brain and body, referencing Plug-in-City, one of his major works.
We based this portrait on the photograph of Peter receiving a Honorary Fellowship from the Arts Institute at Bournemouth  - he had a well deserved proud sparkle in his eyes!
