I spent some time looking through copies of Archigram magazine, reading up on Sir Peter Cook's life and achievements and asking architect friends what they knew about him and what they thought of him. This all really confused me and left me stuck. I knew lots about Sir Peter Cook but wasn't sure how to translate it into a portrait. After toing and froing with fairly conventional portraits I eventually decided to mix an image of Sir Peter with one of my favourite ideas from Archigram, the Walking City. In my portrait Sir Peter has become like a walking city, a control centre supported by lots of tentacles that enable him to do many things at once. I always wanted to keep the image simple and playful and I reckon this covers both of those bases.
