I try not to venture into portraiture too often - I've hurt too many feelings in the past through obsessively drawing every blemish and wrinkle - so for this occasion I wanted to consider the portrait from a different angle.
 
With such an iconic look came the danger of thinking too literally about a portrait of Sir Peter - I wanted to focus more on the creation side of someone who has devoted his life to creative work and thought, so I went back to day one, and stamped the occasion (as I imagined it) with his birthday. 
I wanted it to act like a commemorative postcard or stamp, or a glorified birthday card.
